The Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle on Earth day

This Coconut Rhinoceros beetle is a pest. It eats the coconut trees. A special trained team tries to catch them and prevents them from spreading elsewhere than Tumon. Lucky thing no Rhino’s here down south.

Deze kokosnoot neushoorn kever is een echte pest. Hij eet palmbomen. Een special getrained team vangt ze en zorgt ervoor dat ze niet verder verspreiden (nu enkel in Tumon). Gelukkig komt deze neushoorn nog niet in het zuiden voor.

Gisela had an art exhibition together with other GATE teachers. Here some of my favorites. Gisela is amazing. She has an eye for detail, colors and a very creative mind. The kids are natural talents and when you combine these you get something really beautiful, wow! I’m very impressed!

Gisela stelde dit weekend wat kunstwerkjes ten toon die ze samen met haar schoolkinderen maakte. Prachtig gewoon! Ze heeft oog voor detail, kleuren en een creative geest. De kinderen zijn natuurtalenten en wanneer je deze combineert krijg je iets heel bijzonders. Ik was onder de indruk!

GATE Theater and Choir Cantate

We had kind of a cultural weekend. First we went to the GATE theater. It was a musical (high school students) about an eating plant. Bassie loved it, Ekko listend very attentively but fell asleep on Toms lap at the end, like Luna on mine.

We hadden een cultureel weekend. Eerst gingen we naar het GATE theater. Er was een musical (middelbare school kinderen) over een vleesetende plant. Bas vond het geweldig, Ekko luisterde heel geboeid, maar viel uiteindelijk op Tom zijn schoot in slaap, Luna op de mijne.

On Sunday I went with the kids to the choir Cantate in the St-John chapel. The singing was so beautiful. The boys were sitting either side of me, Luna on my lap. They listened for 45 minutes! I couldn’t believe it!!!! I was so pround about them. Ekko was clapping after each song (but always later than the rest, so sweet! We went to a playground after the intermission (I didn’t want to push it , I want to end in beauty and praise them for listening to the music so well) and had dinner in town. It was a fun date with my 3 kids! Wow! I gave Bas a kiss and he told me; ‘mommy when you kiss me, you just smell like Luna.”

Op zondag ging ik met de kinderen luisteren naar een koor (Cantate) in de St-Johns kapel. Het gezang was zo mooi! De jongens zaten langs mijn zijde, Luna op zijn schoot. Ze luisterden 45 minuten! Ik kon het gewoon niet geloven! Ik was zo trots op hen. Ekko klapte in zijn handjes (telkens wat later dan de rest, grappig)! Na de pause nam ik ze mee naar een speeltuin (ik wou ze niet langer laten luisteren om het te laten eindigen in schoonheid) en uit eten in de stad. Het was een fijne avond uit met mijn 3 kindjes. Ik gaf Bas een kus en hij zei me: ‘mama, wanneer je me zo een kus geeft, ruik je naar Luna’.

Composting

Composting is fun! Not only you get rid of your leftovers, you get something in return. After storytelling the kids got into the compost and had fun looking at the critters.

Composteren is plezant!

Woodcrafting (Gert and Bas), painting (Stijn and Bas) and sewing (me and Bas) efforts combined: the result: a very cool castle for storytelling. This back you can change: this time, a compost scene and critter puppets.

Houtbewerking (Gert en Bas), schilderen (Stijn en Bas) en naaien (ik en Bas): resultaat: een tof kasteel voor verhaaltjes te vertellen. Je kan de achtergrond wijzigen: deze keer een composterings scene en kriebelbeestjes.

We did the 2K Ko'Ko' run

Me and the kids went running (actually walking) for the Ko’Ko on April 10th. Tom had to work so it was kind of a chalange for Ekko (I couldn’t carry him because Luna was in the sling. By the time we got there it was pooring, which it did the whole run! We had the raincoats along lucky thing, but our shoes were soaking wet (I took mine of to start with). We sang the rain songs the whole time! And Ekko didn’t stop onces (only I couldn’t release his hand) the whole 2K run! Bas and I were so proud of him! And Luna was smiling at us big time (I had an umbrella too). I was so happy afterwords we did this! It was really fun! We changed clothes and stayed a little while longer to enjoy the atmosphere (it was raining anymore).

De kinderen en ik gingen lopen (eigenlijk stappen) om geld in te zamelen voor de Ko’Ko (de edemische vogelsoort van Guam) op 10 april. Tom moest werek du shier kwam een uitdaging aan voor Ekko (ik kon hem niet dragen omdat Luna al in de sling zat). En het was bovendien aan het stortregenen. Onze schoenen waren doormat (ik deed de mijne uit van bij het begin). We zongen regenliedjes de hele tijd en Luna was heel de tijd naar ons aan het lachen. En Ekko stopte niet (mocht wel zijn hand niet lossen) de hele 2 kilometer. Bas en ik waren zo trots op hem! We waren zo blij dat we het gedaan hadden. Het was echt leuk! We deden andere kleren aan en bleven nog wat langer om de atmosfeer op te snuiven (het regende niet meer).
