The guardians of the crystal rocks

Some neighborhood kids build a camp up a big hill. They talk about crystal rocks all the time. It is so much fun to see them playing. I took some scrap wood along and they made their own flag! 'I can't believe this is happening' Noah said. How beautiful ... so happy with the simple things of life!

Bas was so happy when he found his first crystal rock, he was part of the guardian team!

Enkele kindjes van de buurt bouwden een kamp op een heuvel. Ze praten over kriatllen rotsen de hele tijd. Het is echt een plezier om hen te zien spleen. Ik nam wat overschot van hout mee en ze maakten hun eigen vlag. ‘Ik kan niet geloven dat dit gebeurt’ zei een van de kindjes. Hoe mooi … zo blij om de simpele dingen des levens!

Bas was zo blij wanneer hij zijn eerste kristallen rots vond, hij was een van hun!

Handmade baby gifts

I wanted to make some nature crafty hanger for a baby one day (Luna got one from a friend and she loves it). Ryan happened to be in town, so I made it for Nellie (Jamie youngest girl). It turned out like I wanted (although it took me a while to figure it out). And hihi, sorry Jamie I took that picture from your blog, but I noticed it hanging on the wall.

Jamie had given Ryan a present for Luna along: some handmade felted balls. Wow!!!!!! And Luna Isa, she is CRAZY about balls. When she saw these she was first speechless, but then shouted ‘BALL’!!!!! She was sooooo happy! They are super beautiful! Thanks Jamie!

Ik wou al lang een natuur hanger maken voor baby’s (Luna kreeg eentje van Leen en ze vindt het geweldig mooi om naar te kijken). Ryan kwam toevallig langs, zodus maakte ik eentje voor Nellie (Jamie haar jongste dochter). Het was precies zoals ik wou (hoewel het maken niet zo eenvoudig was als het leek).

Jamie gaf ook Ryan een cadeautje voor Luna mee: hand gemaakte felted ballen. Waaw! En Luna Isa, zij is echt GEK van ballen. Wanneer ze ze zag, was ze eerst spraakloos, maar riep dan uit ‘BAL’! Ze was zo blij! En ze zijn ook wonder mooi, dank je Jamie!

I ran the Ko'Ko race

A couple of friends and I decided to participate in the Ko’Ko race (the money goes to the protection of the Ko’Ko). You can do either a half marathon or a relay with 4 (5 km each). Eliana did the half marathon (wow!!!), Suzanne, me and some other girls did the relay. I was kind of nervous (I only trained 3 time before the run) and I’ve had never left Luna at 2.30 at night until 7 in the morning. We had to be there early because we had to go with the bus to our station. I had to run 3rd. We had two teams, a native species team and a fire team (against burning, to prevent erosion). Tammy made our T-shirts herself, really cool! My big reward at the end was seeing my kids, they were waiting together with Tom. And they had been fine!!!! The whole event was so much fun, picking up friends in the middle of the night, drive with the bus and wait until your friend arrives. And the running to was really cool (along the ocean). I did a pretty good run, around 30 min or so. And Penny was so sweet, she got up early to a was our local reporter taking pictures along the road. She looked so cool in her jeans and with her camera and it made me smile. It was fun hanging out with the runners and their families afterwards. And afterwards we did a big family nap.

Een paar vriendinnen en ik besloten dit jaar deel te nemen aan de Ko’Ko race (de opbrengst gaat naar de bescherming van de Ko’Ko vogel). Je kan ofwel een halve marathon lopen of een estafette met 4 (elk 5 km lopen). Eliane liep de halve marathon (wow!), Suzanne, ik en een paar ander meisjes deden de estafette. Ik was een klein beetje nerveus (ik trained slechts 3 keer voor ik liep) en ik had Luna nog nooit om 2.30 ‘s nachts achtergelaten tot 7 uur ‘s ochtends. We moesten er vroeg zijn omdat we met de bus naar onze plaats moesten gebracht worden. Ik moest 3de lopen. We hadden 2 teams, een inheemse dieren team en een brand team (om te vermijden dat de bossen worden afgebrand en er erosie onstaat wat weer slecht is voor het koraal). Tammy maakte onze T-shirt zelf, echt cool! Mijn grootste belonging was mijn kindjes zien, zij wachtten samen met Tom aan mijn eindstation. En ze waren geweldig geweest! Het hele gebeuren was zo leuk, vrienden ophalen in het midden van de nacht , met de bus door Tumon en wachten tot je vriendin je komt aflossen. En het lopen zelf was ook leuk (langs de zee op). Ik liep vrij goed, rond de 30 min of zo. En Penny was zo lief, ze stond zelf ook heel vroeg op en speelde reporter. Ze zag er zo cool uit in haar jeans en met haar camera dat het me deed lachen. Het was ook leuk met iedereen nog wat rond te hangen aan de finish nadien met de families! En nadien deden we thuis een grote familiedutje.

Our Luna talks and walks

She is one year and two weeks and she is talking and now also walking. Her talking is some much fun, she is so funny. Penny is joking, telling me she just like me, talking all the time. Her favorite thing to say is ‘bloem (flower)’ en ‘kijk (look)’. Her color is ‘paars (purple)’. She loved to go in the garden and eat sherries, so she says ‘tuin kers’. Of course ‘Bas’ and ‘Ekko’ and het dear friend Anna’s name are often heard. The other day she was asking Penny for ‘cheese’ while she uses ‘kaas’ when she addresses me. Her favorite animal to say is ‘muis (mice)’, ‘Ko’Ko’ and ‘kat (cat)’. When she wants to sit down to draw she says ‘stoel’ or when she wants to bike ‘fiets’, ‘pop’ when she played with her puppets, and she even put two words together occasionally saying ‘papa thuis!!!!!!!!!’. She must have at least 50 words now. We have so much fun listening to her and following her lead.

‘Sus’ from ‘susu’ is one my favorite words, it her first Chamorro word. Together with saying that word she signs for breastfeeding. She drinks so much more than the boys and everywhere she goes: in the ocean, on our walk and in the mall.

Luna loves to dress up. Often times she looking in the dress up box and takes out the pirate T-shirt of her brothers. She tries to put it on and sys ‘pirate’. I help her, but the pirate head, she puts on herself. We have to laugh when she giggles. She waves at her dad when he leaves for work like that, isn’t that adorable?

Luna adores her brothers. Ekko is her true buddy and they can laugh and chase each other and roll over the ground laughing. Luna will try to give Ekko kisses but she will bite him (not on purpose) while Ekko says ‘nee, nee, bijt, kus Luna’. At night she still wakes up for some feeds, but it already happened (when I’m not sleeping yet) that I walk in the door and I hear Ekko say ‘ok? Ja! Ok? Ja!’ and she falls asleep just next to him. Bas calls her Lunie and makes her doll house pretty for her or gets her flowers.

Ze is een jaar een twee weken en ze praat super volt, ook loopt ze nu sinds een week. Haar stemmetje is goud waard en we moeten steeds lachen met wat ze allemaal te vertellen heeft. Penny grapt dat ze dat van haar mama heeft. Haar favoriete woorden zijn nog steeds ‘bloem’ en ‘kijk’. Haar kleur is ‘paars’. Ze houdt van de kersen in de tuin en zegt dan wijzend ‘kers tuin’. Natuurlijk hoor je heel de tijd ‘Bas’, ‘Ekko’ en ‘Anna’. Laatst vroeg ze Penny om ‘cheese’ terwijl ze mij ‘kaas’ vraagt. Haar favoriete dieren zijn ‘muis’, ‘Ko’Ko’ en kat. Wanneer ze wil zitten om te tekenen zegt ze ‘stoel’ of wanneer ze wil fietsen ‘fiets’, ‘pop als ze met het poppenhuis spelt en soms zegt ze twee woorden na elkaar zoals ‘papa thuis!!!!!!!!!’. Ze heeft op zijn minst 50 woorden nu. We hebben zo vaak lachen en volgen haar met plezier en luisteren naar wat ze te vertellen heeft.

‘Sus’ is een van mij favoriete woorden. Het is haar eerste Chamorro woord, wat borstvoeding wil zeggen. Terwijl ze het zegt doet ze met haar handje het tekenen van drinken. Ze drinkt veel meer melk dan de jongens en ze wil ook overal drinken: in de zee, als we wandelen en in de supermarket.

Ze houdt er van zich te verkleden en haalt vaak het piratenkostuum van de jongens uit. Ze probeert de T-shirt over haar hoofd te trekken en zegt ‘pirate’. Ik help haar, maar de hoed zet ze helemaal zelf op. We lachen wanneer ze rond wandelt met dat geniepig lachje op haar gezicht. Wanneer papa naar het werk vertrekt zit ze vaak zo buiten te wachten en zwaait hem na, is dat niet super schattig?

Luna houdt van haar broers. Ekko is haar liefste vriend en ze kunnen samen lachen en elkaar achtervolgen door de gang tot ze rollen van het lachen. Luna prober Ekko dan kusjes te geven maar bijt een beetje omdat ze haar mond te veel open doet. Ekk zegt dan ‘nee, nee, bijt, kus Luna’. ‘s Nachts wordt ze soms wakker (wanneer ik nog niet bij haar lig) en soms gebeurt het dat ik binnen wandel en hoor Ekko zeggen ‘ok? Ja! Ok? Ja!’ en ze slaapt terug, dicht bij Ekko. Bas noemt haar ‘Lunie’ en maakt haar poppenhuis mooi en brengt haar bloemen.

Special kids gifts

We got the sweetest present for Luna from Ian and Ariadne. Ian made a felt mice and Ariadne a knitted duck. Ekko and Luna love to play with them. Luna puts the duck in the dress up box and askes me where she went? When she takes her out again she gets a kiss. Ekko’s godmother wrote and illustrated a book about a duck named ‘kwak’. It is one of our favorite books and Ekko wanted to read the book with our duck who got the name kwak straight away. The mice is Ekko’s favorite. We found a few mice in the neighborhood and since then he is very curious about them. Luna loves it that she can put him in all kinds of places, because he is so little. This little chair is one of them. She is really very happy with both gifts. Thanks Ian and Ariadne.

We kregen een superlief cadeau voor Luna.

van Ian en Ariadne. Ian maakte een vilten muis en Ariadne een gebreide eend. Ekko en Luna spelen er overdag veel mee. Luna stopt de eend in haar verkleedkoffer en vraagt me waar ze is. Wanneer ze haar er uit neemt krijgt ze een kus. Ekko’s meter schreef en illustreerde een boek over een eend genaamd ‘kwak’. Het is een van onze favoriete boeken en natuurlijk noemt de eend nu kwak. De muis is Ekko zijn favoriet. We vonden recent enkele muizen in de buurt en muizen boeien hem enorm nu. Luna laat de muis overall zitten, dit kleine stoeltje is maar een voorbeeldje. Ze is echt heel blij met de lieve geschenken. Dank je Ian and Ariadne.

Nina Rhonda made Luna this beautiful dress and hair band! They fit her perfect! And she loves the hair band so much, if I take it off, she wants me to put it on again. Really funny girl, as long as she has a flower on it she will love it, now she also looks at all her dresses and say ‘bloem’ and point to it!

Nina Rhonda maakte haar dit mooie kleedje en de haarband. En het past haar perfect! Ze houdt heel erg veel van de haarband. Wanneer ik hem af doe, wil ze hem terug aan doen, echt grappig. Zolang er maar een bloem op staat is ze blij. Met haar kleedjes hetzelfde, ze kijkt er naar en roept ‘bloem’.
