Luna is moving around a lot! She gets everywhere by crawling on her tummy and moving her arms and legs like a lizard. She gets on her hands and knees but can not get as fast as she wants that way. Very fluently she goes from sitting to crawling and back. She is a very happy lady and giggles a lot. Attentively she studies everything around her.

They always said boys are very attached but I think she has it even more than the boys. She will throw her self at me or make a pout and start to cry.

She loves to dance, play peek-a-boo, laugh with her brothers, explore the garden, play in the sand, walk in the sling with me and the boys and swim in the ocean. She says ‘mama’, ‘ba’ (from bas) en ‘wa’ for water (to swim)… and the one thing she loves the most is waving. She waves when daddy and bas leave or when it is naptime she waves to Ekko. She is very ticklish and screams out loud from laughing.

Thanks moeke for making her this beautiful outfit! It just perfect. (my mom told me the fabric is from she was very young, my mother always says: fabric don’t eat bread, so whenever I see a fabric, even without a project I buy and save it).

Luna beweegt vrolijk rond de laatste tijd. Ze geraakt overall waar ze heen wil door op haar buik te liggen en haar armen en benen te bewegen zoals een hagedis. Ze gaat vaak op handen en knieën staan maar ze is nog niet snel genoeg en na twee kruipjes gaat ze weer op de buik. Heel vlotjes gaat ze nu van zitten naar kruipen en omgekeerd wat handig is want ze vast niet meer om. Supergeconcentreerd bestudeert ze alles rond haar. Ze is een hele blije baby en lacht altijd.

Ze zeggen dat jongens meer aanhankelijk zijn dan meisjes maar ik ervaar het tegenovergestelde. Ze gooit zich letterlijk en figuurlijk naar mij of maakt een pruillip en begint te wenen.

Ze vindt het geweldig om te dansen, verstoppertje te spelen, te lachen met haar broers, in de tuin te kruipen, te spelen in het zand, te wandelen in de draagdoek en te zwemmen in de zee. Ze zegt ‘mama’, ‘ba’ (bas) en ‘wa’ (voor zwemmen of bad) … en wat ze het geweldigst vind van alles: zwaaien! Ze zwaait wanneer papa en Bas naar school vertrekken of wanneer ze gaat slapen (naar Ekko dan). Ze is heel kittelachtig en lacht zich vaak een breuk!

Bedankt moeke om dit mooie kleedje te maken. Het staat haar beeldig. Perfect! (mijn mama vertelde me dat het stofje nog is van toen ze jong was, mijn mama zegt altijd: stofjes eten geen brood. Wanneer ik een mooi stofje zie koop ik het, voor wanneer het een project vindt).

Luna Isa: breast and bread

Luna loves to eat. Her favorites is mango (the local ones, we get them from Suzanne and Mara) and she does loves apples too. Her favorite vegetables are sweet pototo, carrots, any squash and red beet. Rice crackers and brown bread accompanie her meals and she adores it! It is a joy to see her eat! She follows the ‘Stefan kleintjes’ method. A guy from the Netherlands wrote a book about breastfeeding and first food, and what, when and how to introduce food. He recommends giving pieces. I did it with my three kids and it works like a charm.

But Luna’s main food is still breast milk. She really drinks a lot and sometimes she will skip a meal and just drink lots of susu. Luna’s favorite place to breastfeed is the ocean. Every time she wants to breastfeed and play with the waves with her feet. A happy moment.

Luna vindt eten een geweldig avontuur. Haar favoriet fruit is mango (de locale vruchten krijgen we hier van vrienden in overvloed), appels vindt ze ook heel lekker. Haar favoriete groente is zoete aardappel, wortels, pompoen en rode biet. Rijstkoeken en bruine boterhammen vergezellen haar maaltijden en lekker dat ze het vindt! Het is een plezier om haar te zien eten. Ze volgt de ‘Stefan Kleintjes’ methode. Een man uit Nederland schreef een boek over borstvoeding en eten voor baby’s en hoe, wat en wanneer te geven. Hij raadt aan broken te geven en niet te purperen. Ik deed het met alle drie mijn kindjes en het lukte perfect!

Maar Luna’s hoofdmaaltijd bestaat nog steeds uit borstvoeding. Ze drinkt echt reuzeveel en soms slaat ze wel een maaltijd over en drinkt dan gewoon veel melk waar toch vanalles in zit dat goed is voor haar. En het allerliefst van al, drink ze susu in de zee. Elke keer opnieuw vraagt ze erom. Terwijl ze drinkt spelt ze plons plons met haar voetjes. Wat een zalig moment!

Sad ...

I did an terrible discovery early in the week … when I was about to give breakfast to our baby chickens I thought they were so quiet … when I looked in their house two were dead and one was missing. Probably a snake got it. Because a week ago a dog tried to break in and bit a hole in the netting (only small) I was already mor careful and put them higher up. The hole was on the side and realy tide, but still she must have found a way … Bas was sooooooo sad. He said: ‘snakes are not beautiful!!!!!!!’ Ekko thinks they escaped and are running in our garden (indeed little chickens are there). Lucky thing we have Ko’Ko still (we had her from when she was a baby chicken, but her mom was with her until she was a hen (the mom escaped one day when the kids left the door open). Anyway, we hop we can find a friend for Ko’Ko sometime soon.

Ik deed een vreselijke ontdekking begin deze week… Ik had het ontbijt voor de kuikentjes al klaar wanneer ik bedacht dat ze wel stil waren … tot wanneer ik in hun kooi keek. Twee dode kuikens en eentje weg. Waarschijnlijk een slang. Omdat er vorige week een hond had proberen in te breken en een ere en klein gat in beet had ik hen al hoger op gezet. Het gat had ik op de zijkant gedraaid en aangespannen maar toch is er een slang ingeraakt…. Bas was zo triest. Hij zei: ‘slangen zijn niet mooi!’ Ekko denkt dat ze ontsnapt zijn omdat er zoveel kuikens in de tuin rond lopen. Gelukkig hebben we Ko’Ko nog. We hadden haar ook van toen zee en kuiken was, maar haar mama bleef bij haar tot zee en hen was. Bas had de kooi opengelaten en ze is ontsnapt. Maar we hopen dat we snel een ander vriendinnetje voor onze Ko’Ko vinden.

Husband of the year!

Husband of the year said Suzanne! Mmm yes I think so too, he was soooooooooo sweet: breakfast on bed, cooking all day (four trays of sushi and lots of homemade red rice), organizing a beautiful party with my best friends on Guam (and their families) and a movie in the evening! It was great to turn 36. Everyone had so much fun! Thanks sweetie!

Echtgenoot van het jaar zei Suzanne! Mmm, ja ik denk het ook, hij was zooooooooooooo lief: ontbijt op bed, heel de dag achter het kookfornuis (4 plateau’s sushi en zelfgemaakte rode rijst), een wondermooi verrassings verjaardagsfeestje met mijn beste vrienden op Guam (en hun families) en een mooie film ‘s avonds. Het was fantastisch om 36 te worden. Iedereen had zoveel plezier! Dank je schatje!

May harvest at UOG

The organic farm from the university organized a May harvest festival. Everybody could pick vegetablesand fruits and look at the animals. It is a beautiful garden: big trees, fun designs, beautiful plants and fun ideas. They use lots chredded paper to keep the plants moist in this hot climate.

De biologische boerderij van de universiteit organiseerde een Mei festival. Iedereen mocht groeten en fruit plukken en kennismaken met de dieren. Het is een prachtige tuin. Grote bomen, toffee ontwerpen, prachtige planten en leuke ideeën. De gebruiken veel versnipperd papier om de grond vochtig te houden in het warme klimaat.

This is the Lipstick tree or Achoti (Chamorro). We have a little one growing in a pot at home. When the rainy season starts Luna will plant her first tree together with the placenta They make red rice with the seeds.

Dit is de Lippenstift boom of Achoti in het Chamorro. We hebben ook zo een klein boompje in een pot. Wanneer het regenseizoen start gaat Luna het in de tuin planten boven de placenta. Ze maken rode rijst met de zaadjes.

Swimming lessons in the ocean

Heather gives Bas swimming lessons in the ocean. He is so lucky, to have such a fun friend as a teacher and to able to tearn to swim in the ocean! Luna, Ekko and me have fun in the ocean at the same time. Bas loves it!

Heather geeft Bas zwemles in de zee. Echt leuk voor hem dat een vriendin zwemles geeft terwijl ik, Ekko en Luna zwemmen. Bas vindt het geweldig!

Papa en dochter

Kari

Bas just love this baby chicken. He called her ‘Kari’ (he invented the name but by accident it mean ‘god of the wind’) and takes her out of the box a few times a day, to give her kisses and show her flowers or let her swing.

Bas is gek van dit kuikentje. Hij noemde haar ‘Kari’ (hij vond de naam uit, maar toevallig wil het ‘god van de wind’ zeggen) en haalt haar een paar keer per dag uit haar doos, om haar zoentjes te geven, bloemen te tonen of te schommelen.

May-pole dancing

Julianne invited all the Garden Day families at her house to dance around the May-pole in their yard. After telling a story about the may-pole the kids did circle dances around the pole! It was such a beautiful and happy moment!!!!!!!

Julianne nodigde alle Garden Day families uit om te dansen rond de meipaal in hun tuin. Nadat zee en verhaal erover vertelde dansten we allemaal rond de paal, het was een bijzonder mooi en gelukkig moment!!!!!

Dit kleedje maakte ik voor Pheadra haar verjaardag. Ze staat er beeldig mee.
