On Tuesday the 21 of December we saw a total lunar eclipse. The moon rises on the Eastern side, so we were able to see it perfectly on the ocean side.
When the Moon rises it was already totally in the Earth's shadow. The Moon was a clear red. This is because the Earth's air bends the Sun's light around the Earth to shine on
the Moon when the three bodies are exactly lined up. That light passes through the sunrise-sunset ring and is therefore red or orange.

Op dinsdag 21 December zagen we een totale maansverduistering. De maan komt op in het zuiden, zodus konden wij het hier aan zee perfect zien.
Wanneer de Maan opkwam was het al volledig in de schaduw van de aarde. De Maan was helder rood. Dit is omdat de lucht rond de aarde het zonlicht buigt wanneer alle drie de hemellichamen op een rij staan. Dat licht passeert door de zonsopgang-zonsondergang ring waar het rood of oranje is.
