Batik workshop - Bas into chiefs

Remember the beautiful painting in the little village of Inarajan? Judy Flores, the artist, gave a batik class in the weekend. Bas and me joined. It was so much fun, working with the wax and coloring the fabric.

She was selling a book with Guam stories (legends) and of course there were many stories about chief Gadao. I told some and did some puppet show. A bit later Bas told me: “mom, I think I’m into chiefs now, since you tell me all these stories.” He painted the most beautiful picture of the Gadao legend. He did a very good job, only the pedal was a bit difficult he said, he ask told his hand doing that one. Of course I help you, Bassie.

Kan je je nog de mooie schilderijen van het kleine dorpje in Inarajan herinneren? Judy Flores, de artiste, gaf een batik les in het weekend. Bas en ik deden mee. Het was heel leuk, werken met de wax en het kleuren van de stof.

Ze verkocht een boek met Guamse verhalen (legends) en natuurlijk waren er veel over het opperhoofd Gadao. Ik vertelde er wat en deed wat poppenverhalen. Een beetje later zegt Bas me “mama, ik ben nu gek van opperhoofden, omdat je me al die verhalen vertelt’. Hij schilderde de mooiste legende prent. Heel mooi, alleen vroeg hij me om zijn hand vast te houden om de pedel te schilderen. Natuurlijk, help ik je, Basje.

Papa is back from Pagan

Papa is back, after two weeks in Pagan. Lots of diving, working in a labo on the beach, sleeping on tents with a smoking volcano at the back. Bas drew it all.

And it has been soooooooo NICE having him back. We are enjoying him so much. Happy, happy.

Papa is terug, na twee weken in Pagan. Veel duiken, werken in een labo op het strand, slapen in tenten met een rokende vulkaan op de achtergrond. Bas tekende het allemaal.

En het is zooooooooo fijn om hem terug te hebben. We hebben zoveel plezier. Gelukkig, gelukkig.

Liberation day

We wanted to go for three things to liberation day: to see the planes and helicopters flying over, to support the recycling stand and to see the Ko’ko with Suzanne, Ska and Malo. We were just on time for the planes and the first truck we saw was the Ko’Ko, I recycle one, I couldn’t believe it!!! Our day was a success! Thanks Eliana for joining us. Thanks Penny for the pictures of the planes.

We gingen naar de bevrijdingsdag voor drie redenen: om de vliegtuigen te zien, de recyclage stand the steunen en om de Ko’Ko (locale vogel) met Suzanne, Ska en Malo te zien. We waren net op tijd voor de vliegtuigen en de eerste auto die we zien is die van de Ko’ko in de ‘ik recycleer’ auto. Onze dag was een succes! Bedankt Penny voor de vliegtuig foto’s.

Ekko loves to use his hand doing art! He loves to open the lids more than anything and smear the paint on the paper. I love these!!!!! He was pround of them to and wanted to do an artshow straight away? And he was a piece of art too, body painting.

Ekko gebruikt nog het liefst zijn vingers bij het schilderen. Hij opent het liefst van al de deksels en smeert de verf over het papier. Ik vind deze geweldig. Hij was zo blij dat hij meteen een tentoonstelling wou houden. Van zijn schilderijen en zichzelf, want hij was ook een stukje kunst, body painting.

Kamuti rye pancakes

We have sweet potato in our garden, we used the tips of the sweet potato, but used local grown potato’s.

We hebben zoete aardappel in onze tuin. We gebruikten de groene tippen en kochten locale zoete aardappels.

7 tablespoons of butter

¼ cup whipping cream

2 cups of sweet potato (tips, root), carrot, italian squash, onion

1 cup milk

1 cup rye flower

3 eggs

Black pepper

Salie

Oregano

100 gr boter

60 ml room

400 gr zoete aardappel (tippen, wortel), wortel, courgette, ajuin

240 ml melk

120 gr rogge bloem

3 eieren

Zwarte peper

Bread baking with the mommy's

During the holiday we learned to bake different kinds bread with a few friends at Eliana’s house while the kids were playing around us. It was so much fun! While the bread was baking we did a wake at Leo Palace. Eliana also made homemade icecream, so good!

Tijdens de vakantie kwamen we met een aantal vriendinnen samen bij Eliana om elkaar verschillende soorten brood te leren bakken terwijl de kindjes rond ons speelden. Het was heel fijn, terwijl het brood bakte deden we een wandeling. Eliana maakte ook zelfgemaakte ijs, heel lekker.
